THE CHALLENGE
The Portland Forest School (PFS) is a unique academic experience where students take part in classes “outside and into nature everyday.”
Tuition for the school year is around $18K. To make the school more affordable and equitable, PFS has a financial aid program called, “Tailored Tuition.” This program runs through a third-party platform called Clarity.
PFS has a landing page for the program on their website, which does not have clear step-by-step instructions.

THE STRATEGY
I created a tri-fold brochure for parents and guardians to use onsite during PFS’s open houses and events.
The brochure integrates the PFS brand color scheme, and adds in new colors (teal, off-white) for depth.
Because PFS is focused on the environment, the brochure has icons of trees, pine cones, and rugged textures.
I split the brochure into three main sections:
- Explanation of the benefits of the “Tailored Tuition” program
- Step-by-step instructions to apply through Clarity
- FAQs about financial aid
Using the website landing page as a base, I condensed the volume of copy for the brochure and rewrote the instructions section. The instructions are now in a numbered list with clear, actionable steps.
